Bushrod To Receive Towson University’s Distinguised Alumni Award
TOWSON, Md. – Jermon Bushrod, a former Tiger football standout and current member of the NFL's Chicago Bears, has been selected as Towson University's Distinguished Alumnus for 2015. He will be honored at a ceremony on May 14 at the University Union Chesapeake Room beginning at 6 p.m.
Bushrod, a 2007 graduate, was a 2006 All-Atlantic 10 selection at left tackle. He started 38 consecutive games during his career and led the Tigers to a 7-4 record in 2006.
After being drafted in the fourth round by the New Orleans Saints in 2007, Bushrod quickly earned the starting left tackle nod. He played a pivotal role in leading the Saints to a Super Bowl XLIV victory in 2008.
Bushrod garnered two trips to the pro-bowl during his time in New Orleans before signing a lucrative five-year contract with the Chicago Bears in 2013.
Off the field, Bushrod created the Visualize and Rize Foundation to inspire youth to become leaders, positive influences in their communities, and to motivate them to reach their dreams. A signature event of the foundation is a celebrity golf tournament held annually in his home town of King George, Virginia. He also sponsors scholarships for high school senior athletes who continue their education with vocational training or go on to college.
The TU Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who exemplifies continued professional development, success in his or her field, and a commitment to Towson University. The award has been conferred since 1958.
